Job Description
About Cannon Valley Graziers:
Cannon Valley Graziers (CVG) provides large-scale vegetation management services for solar energy and conservation projects across the U.S. Our work emphasizes safety, operational reliability, and environmentally responsible land management.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a hardworking and motivated technician to help kickstart our solar vegetation management operations in Illinois. The Lead Vegetation Technician will work closely with the Solar Project Coordinator on the mowing and grazing of a portfolio of distributed generation solar sites and execute a precise herbicide application program. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with high-volume mowing, a Class A CDL, a current Illinois Commercial Applicator License (Category 9), and a commitment to safety and communication.
This is a full-time, seasonal position (April – November) that involves operating wide-area mowers, performing bareground and broad leaf herbicide applications, working outdoors in diverse conditions, and contributing to CVG’s mission of environmentally responsible land management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate zero-turn mowers safely around solar infrastructure
- Perform daily equipment inspections and maintenance
- Apply bare-ground/broad-leaf herbicide around solar infrastructure and fence line
- Manage chemical safety, SDS records, and herbicide applicator logs
- Assist with livestock health, safety, and transportation during grazing operations
- Capture photos and report all site incidents or equipment damage immediately
- Ensure quality standards are met across all completed work
- Complete all daily logs, tailgate checklists, and site mapping
Requirements:
- Ability to work full-time, outdoors, April through November
- 2+ years of high-volume mowing experience
- Ability to work with and communicate effectively with a field team
- Ability to perform physical work in heat, humidity, and variable weather
- Ability to follow and deliver written and verbal instructions in English
- Maintain digital records for work progress, livestock health, and site hazard mapping
- Agricultural, landscaping, or related field experience preferred
- Must hold a Valid Class A CDL
- Must hold current Illinois Commercial Applicators License, Category 9
Additional Information
- Full-time seasonal position, with potential to become year-round
- Overtime may be required depending on weather and project schedules
